Breedon adds Liebherr muscle

Liebherr Rental was the first point of contact when one of the country’s top aggregates businesses needed extra muscle on a quarry expansion

Breedon Group’s Borras quarry in North Wales produces significant volumes of high-quality sand and the company is currently expanding the site while at the same time restoring previously worked areas.

With the digging and hauling fleet already working hard, a dozer was required on a temporary basis and quarry manager Ed Maurice-Jones immediately contacted his ‘go to’ rental partner. ‘When we require an additional machine, whether it’s a dozer or an excavator, Gareth Blythin, Liebherr’s national rental sales manager, will always be our first port of call. We know we will be getting a machine that will be reliable, productive and fuel-efficient. We also know that it will be set up just right for the quarry.’

The PR 746 G8 with a six-cylinder, 10.5-litre diesel engine delivering 286hp was the recommended model. Supplied in LGP specification with 914mm wide track pads, it puts more than 3.3m of track on the ground and will operate comfortably on almost any underfoot conditions.

The LGP specification adds a 6m3 straight blade and a three-shank ripper to the rear, a combination that takes the operating weight to just over 30t. Fuel consumption is averaging just 19.04 litres per hour according to Breedon.

Like all Liebherr Rental models, the dozer can be fitted with any aftermarket machine control system, with Leica preferred for the pre-wired system. G8 machines, however, come with a basic level of automation as standard using the manufacturer’s Assistance Systems.

Liebherr Rental’s dozer fleet covers almost the entire model range, starting at the compact PR 716 G8, ideal for trimming, up to the 54t PR 766 G8, designed for volume production in quarrying and earthmoving.
